History of Valdoria
Our story begins long before we did — with two lines drawn on a colonial map that accidentally left a piece of the earth belonging to no one.
Everything below is the documented record: real border history, and things the Republic has actually done. Valdoria also keeps a mythology — invented stories, invented people — and it is filed separately, on purpose. Read the legend →
Prehistory
The Line is Drawn
The Anglo-Egyptian Condominium sets the border at the 22nd parallel — the administrative decision that would, a century later, leave Bir Tawil unclaimed by anyone.
The Second Line
A separate administrative boundary is drawn, creating the quirk by which both Egypt and Sudan prefer the Halaib Triangle and neither claims Bir Tawil.
Founding
The Declaration
The Republic of Valdoria is declared, founded on the principle that a nation may be built from goodwill, code, and a genuinely unclaimed patch of desert.
The Registry Opens
The National Registry Office issues Citizen No. 000001. The 500,000 limit is written into the Constitution and enforced in the national database.
The First Parliament Convenes
Candidacy opens for the fifty elected seats of the First Parliament, and the first honours of the Realm are bestowed.
Recognition by the United Micronations
The United Micronations recognised the Republic as a sovereign micronation and admitted it to membership. This is recognition within the community of micronations; it is not recognition by any sovereign state, and Valdoria says so plainly wherever it is mentioned.
The Territorial Claim
Valdoria formally and symbolically claims a small parcel within Bir Tawil, and establishes the Climate Observatory to monitor it.
