Reading the Arms: Valdorian Heraldry

A short course in the symbols of the Republic — the Gap device, the star, and the meaning carried by the flag, arms and seal. Ends with a genuine certificate of completion.

The Gap

Every emblem of Valdoria carries one device: two gold bars that stop short of meeting, with a white star in the void between them. The bars are the two boundary lines of 1899 and 1902. The void is Bir Tawil. The star is Valdor Point — the place the Republic chose to stand.

The flag

A navy field for the desert night; the two gold bars; the star toward the hoist. Simple enough to draw from memory, which is the first duty of a flag.

The arms and the seal

The arms bear the same device upon a shield, with the motto *Terra Nullius, Spes Omnium* — "Land of No One, Hope of All". The seal rings the device with the name of the Republic and the year of its founding, and is the mark placed upon the certificates of the Realm.

Your certificate of completion
